For students who have a speech or hearing disability the work required to get a college degree can be incredibly challenging. However, there are some organizations who offer support to students with disabilities. If you are a student with a speech or hearing disability there are scholarships available from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation you are eligible to apply for. For a complete list of all grants for students with a disability visit this list of over 150 grants.
ASH Foundation – Student With a Disability Scholarship
This scholarship is part of the overall Graduate Student Scholarship program. This funding opportunity is offered each year, and the 2013 competition will be opening in early spring of 2013.
Full-time graduate students with a disability who are enrolled in a communication sciences and disorders program and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement are eligible to compete for a $5,000 scholarship. Supported by the Leslie Londer Fund.
ASH Foundation – Graduate Student Scholarships
Another scholarship offered by ASH is the graduate student scholarship for any students enrolled in masters or doctoral programs in communication sciences and disorder programs.
The Graduate Student Scholarship competition is designed to support master's and doctoral students, enrolled full-time in a communication sciences and disorders discipline program, who demonstrate academic achievement and promise. Awards for the 2013 scholarship will be made to support full-time students during the 2013-2014 academic year. If your program of study will be continuing into the school year after the summer of 2013, you will be eligible to apply for the competition in 2013. Of the total scholarships awarded through this program four are given to people who meet one of the following:
- one award gives priority to an international student
- one award gives priority to a minority student
- one award gives priority to a student with a disability
- one scholarship is awarded to a national NSSLHA member
When completing an application for the Graduate Student Scholarship, students are welcome to indicate if they would like to be considered for any of those categories in addition to the general scholarship.
